Elise Stefanik wins reelection in New York’s 21st congressional district

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Republican Elise Stefanik has won New York’s 21st congressional district. The Associated Press has called the race for Stefanik over Democratic challenger Paula Collins.

"I am incredibly humbled that voters in Upstate New York and the North Country have once again put their trust in me by overwhelmingly supporting my re-election," said Stefanik in her victory statement. "As a proud Upstate New Yorker, it is the utmost honor and privilege to fight for Upstate at the highest levels of government."

New York’s 21st congressional district includes Warren, Washington, Fulton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Schoharie, Clinton, Franklin, St. Lawrence, Lewis, Hamilton, and Essex Counties, and parts of Jefferson, Rensselaer, and Otsego Counties.

This will be Stefanik’s sixth term in the seat. In her candidate interview with NEWS10, she said immigration was one of her top issues. Stefanik said the effects of the southern border crisis were being felt in her mostly North Country district.

In Collins' candidate interview with NEWS10, she said she was critical of Stefanik about the crisis at the border. Collins said Stefanik had the power to do something about immigration by introducing and passing legislation, and claims that's something Stefanik hadn't done.
