ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Democrat Phil Steck has won in the 110th District of the State Assembly. The Associated Press has called the race for Steck over Republican Jeff Madden.

The 110th District includes parts of Albany and Schenectady Counties.

Steck first assumed the role of the 110th District Assemblyman in 2013 and has since served as the chairman of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Committee, as well as the Health, Insurance, Judiciary, Labor and Oversight, and Investigation Committees. Legislation that interests Steck includes single-payer health insurance, raising revenue through stock transfer tax, which would support state infrastructure and more.

Before becoming an Assemblyman, Steck was elected to the Menands-centered District of the Albany County Legislature from 1999 to 2012. He graduated from Harvard in 1981 and the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1984.

Madden campaigned for making the state affordable, supporting New Yorkers' investment in public safety, and ending expensive state mandates.
