How to manage election stress and anxiety right now

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- If you’re feeling on edge Tuesday, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans report feeling heightened anxiety and stress around the election.

NEWS10's Cassie Hudson stopped by a polling location in Albany to see how voters felt on Election Day. Voters said they felt everything from stressed to optimistic.

The American Psychological Association (APA) is reporting that 69% of Americans see the election as a significant source of stress in their lives. When it comes to managing your stress levels surrounding the election, Dr. Don Grant from Newport Healthcare said there are small, easy steps you can take right now.

"Exercise if you can do that, meditation," Dr. Grant said. "Even if you could walk around the block, I think that is a good thing to try to do today... be a little gentler with yourself."

Dr. Grant goes on to say that managing your social media intake will help your overall mental health. He also says living in "the now" and not the "what if" will help you stay calm overall.
