Coach K Honored (Again)
But this one comes from his colleagues
Well this is pretty cool: the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has decided to rename their award the Mike Krzyzewski Award.
NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson said this: “The NABC takes pride in celebrating on-court excellence and off-court impact – two characteristics that Mike Krzyzewski has for decades embodied. Renaming this honor after Coach K will further elevate the award’s prestigious reputation, and is a fitting tribute to one of the most influential figures in sports history.”
When Krzyzewski started his career, his mentor, former Army and Indiana coach Bob Knight, predicted he was going to be a great coach, but how many people, perhaps including Coach K himself, had any idea of the impact he would have on the game?
From a Duke perspective, how lucky have we been? Not only did he do epic, amazing things here, he also identified a successor who could - so far at least - navigate the savage, cutthroat new environment of college basketball without significant compromise. We really are some lucky fans.
