India and Pakistan set to play together? Afro-Asia Cup to comeback after almost 20 years

The Africa Cricket Association (ACA) has given confirmation that the Afro-Asia cup, featuring an African XI facing an Asian XI, will be reenacted. At the Annual General Meeting (AGM), the ACA announced a six-member temporary committee to investigate some ways to increase players’ chances in Asia and Africa. South Africa hosted the first edition of the tournament in 2005, with India hosting the tournament right next year.

“The Afro-Asia Cup, apart from the cricket, brings the much-needed financial input to the organisation, and the appetite is huge from both ends,” said, Tavengwa Mukuhlani, the interim chair of the ACA.

“We have had conversations with our counterparts within the Asia Cricket Council, and obviously our African contingents, they want the Afro-Asia Cup to be revived,” he further added.

Cricketers from India and Pakistan might get an opportunity to play in the same lineup is the Afro-Asia Cup is held. India and Pakistan have not taken part in a bilateral relation since January 2013, and have instead only faced off in ICC and ACC competitions.
