We have all read news articles about ‘Made in China’ phones exploding, and videos of these explosions also go viral on the internet like wildfire. But have you ever heard that Apple’s iPhones exploded? No, right? However, a woman who hails from China’s Shanxi has claimed that her iPhone 14 Pro Max exploded while she was charging it overnight. She said that the explosion led to severe burns on her hand. The explosion occurred when the woman was sleeping after plugging her phone in for charging. The fire caused by the explosion burned a blanket and part of the room, leaving behind significant damage. Now, the woman is seeking an explanation about what caused the explosion and who is responsible for the damages.
As per a Chinese daily called The Drivers, around 6:30 AM, the phone exploded and reportedly caught fire. The woman woke up when she felt the heat of the flames. According to local media reports, the victim turned over in her sleep and accidentally touched the fire, causing serious burn injuries to her hand.
The firefighters, who arrived after the distressed call, found out that the phone’s explosion led to the fire and had caused significant damage. The video shows the blanket had been burned, and the wall blackened due to smoke.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max in question was purchased by the victim in 2022 and its warranty expired months ago. The woman is now seeking answers from Apple.
Reacting to the recent claims, Apple guarantees its unwavering dedication to addressing safety issues. A representative of Apple noted that they are performing an in-depth inquiry, even though the device’s warranty has expired. The company urged the person involved to return the faulty phone so they could fully analyse what caused the problem. The organisation stressed that situations involving safety hazards are given the utmost importance and priority.
Currently, a thorough investigation is underway, and the woman and Apple are working to find the root cause.
