Trump 'looks forward' to White House meeting with Biden

0

President-elect Trump plans to visit the White House to meet with President Biden after his electoral victory, Trump's campaign said Wednesday, taking part in a ritual he did not afford Biden after the 2020 election.

Biden called Trump to congratulate him on his victory and extend an invitation to the White House to assist with the transfer of power.

“President Trump looks forward to the meeting, which will take place shortly, and very much appreciated the call," Steven Cheung, communications director for the Trump campaign, said in a statement.

Trump's transition team is being led by Linda McMahon, who previously served as the head of the Small Business Administration, and businessman Howard Lutnick. Unlike previous campaigns, the Trump team did not sign pre-Election Day documents to unlock funding and other resources for his transition.

Trump met with then-President Obama at the White House in 2016 after winning that election. But Trump did not extend an invitation to Biden in 2020, nor did he ever concede defeat.

Instead, Trump spread baseless claims of voter fraud, culminating in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Trump did not attend Biden's inauguration, either.
