Australian Breakdancer Raygun Announces Retirement, Talks Reaction to Olympics Performance
Australian breakdancer Raygun is ending her competitive career.
The professional athlete (real name Rachael Gunn) went viral for her unique dance moves during the 2024 Paris Olympics this summer.
In a new interview, she addressed the backlash to her performance and explained why she decided to retire.

“I’m not going to compete anymore, no,” she said during an interview on 2DayFM’s The Jimmy and Nath Show, via Variety. “I was going to keep competing, for sure, but that seems really difficult for me to do now — to approach a battle. Yeah, I mean I still dance, and I still break. But, you know, that’s like in my living room with my partner.”
Raygun said that “the level of scrutiny” that she’d face while competing would change things for her.
Regarding the Olympics, she said, “It was really upsetting because I felt like I just didn’t have any control over how people saw me or who I was.”
