New Delhi: India’s rising cricket star, Shubman Gill, recently attended the birthday celebration of Agni Chopra, who is currently representing Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy 2024. Agni’s mother, film critic Anupama Chopra, shared glimpses from the gathering, which also included Shubman’s sister, Shahneel Gill. Anupama captioned a post, “Birthday celebrations for Agni Chopra—after indulging in too much Kashmiri food and Nutella cheesecake, this is all the partying we could manage.” Agni, who turned 26 on November 4, is the same age as Shubman, reflecting their close bond.
Since his first-class debut for Mizoram earlier this year, Agni Chopra has quickly become a standout player. At 26, he has already notched up eight centuries in just nine matches, including two double hundreds, and boasts an impressive batting average of 99.06. Last season, he made a remarkable entry into the Ranji Trophy with five centuries in his first four games, and he’s continued that stellar form this season with three additional hundreds, two of them being double centuries.
Agni Chopra, the son of acclaimed Bollywood producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, dreams of representing India and competing in the Indian Premier League. Currently, his focus remains on excelling in the Ranji Trophy’s Plate Group, where he is determined to maintain his strong form. His ultimate ambition is to break into the Elite Group and advance his cricketing career on the national stage.
“I don’t think too far into the future. Of course, in terms of the bigger picture, I would love to be picked for the Duleep Trophy, India A, or the IPL, and hopefully, one day, represent India,” Agni Chopra told PTI.
“For me, what works best is focusing only on the next game. I don’t even think about the game after that; I just focus on what’s next because to play for India, I have to perform well in each upcoming game,” he said.
