Solanke is miles above his peers, with no other player in the division even having 175 pressures this season.

Critics eating their words

A number of Spurs fans were critical of the club’s decision to go for Solanke over Ivan Toney, even though Postecoglou had clearly stated that the former Cherries star was his top target.

The Australian coach’s judgement has proven to be right, and many detractors will be happy to eat humble pie now.

Given the lack of top-class number nines in the market at the moment, the £65m fee that Spurs paid for Solanke seems like smart business.
