Rays have reached out to free agent Juan Soto

The Tampa Bay Rays love keeping other teams honest, just as much as they love keeping the industry from getting any sweetheart deals in free agency.
That’s why every season the Rays are tied to the latest and greatest free agent. Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Justin Turner, Craig Kimbrel, the list goes on and on.
The latest name to join that list is Yankees OF Juan Soto.
Does it matter he might cost $600 million? Why, that’s exactly WHY the Rays reach out, to make sure that number gets as high as it needs to get. Erik Neander is your buddy at the poker table raising every round. He wants to make sure you’re serious, but instead of cash all it costs him is time and energy for what is a worthy investment — making his opponent spend more, thereby limiting resources at rival clubs.
And just like with this Juan Soto news, if he wasn’t locked up I’m sure they’d be checking in on Aaron Judge too. It’s great trolling if nothing else.
