Bowen Yang Apologizes to Ariana Grande for Awkward 'SNL' Moment

Bowen Yang has apologized to Ariana Grande over a kiss that evidently got a bit out of hand when the actress and singer, 31, hosted Saturday Night Live for the second time last month.

Yang addressed the moment with Grande during an appearance on the most recent episode of his Las Culturistas podcast that he hosts with comedian Matt Rogers. Switching gears from the topic of horror movies, the 34-year-old confessed, "I really have to apologize to you. I opened my mouth up too much when we kissed on SNL."

In the sketch, Yang played a young man named Josh who is meeting his boyfriend's family for the first night at a game night gone awry. Grande played the mother, Diane, and after initially butting heads and getting into a physical altercation, the pair make up by sharing a kiss at the end of the sketch. However, for her part, Grande—who is by all accounts a consummate professional—said she was unbothered by the moment. 

"You absolutely did, I was shaking," the Wicked star admitted, before clarifying: "No, no, no, no, no—not in a bad way, in just like a disarming way."

When Rogers chimed in to note that the "chemistry was so good," Grande agreed. "Oh my gosh, thank you," she said. "I mean, it comes from a real place."

"But I kissed you too much," Yang reiterated, but Grande wasn't having his apology.

"We were really dropped in and it felt like that these people needed at the time. It felt like what these characters required," she continued. "And I'm all for it!"

Grande then went on to explain that the kiss wasn't originally written into the sketch, but that both she and Yang independently came to the conclusion that it would work for the piece. After she came up with the idea and immediately dismissed it as being "insane and too comfortable," Grande recalled that Yang texted her a few hours later with the suggestion.

But as far as whether it went too far, Grande later admitted, "For the characters, it was perfectly open." You can be the judge, check out the sketch, below.
