Ella Emhoff Feels Your Pain

It looks like the First Daughter of Bushwick will remain just that. After a valiant effort galvanizing young people to vote for stepmom Kamala Harris, Ella Emhoff is beginning to process her family’s new reality. “Truly no words. We are all gonna get through this,” the 25-year-old wrote in an Instagram Story on Thursday. “It just fucking hurts like a bitch right now and that’s ok.” And she was seen sobbing during Harris’s concession speech at Howard University on Wednesday, leaning her head on dad Doug Emhoff’s shoulder.

After being crowned a style sensation during President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021, Emhoff has been a fixture of the Harris campaign since it first fell out of a coconut tree in July. The embodiment of liberal-arts whimsy, she runs an honest-to-god knitting club and had the best dress at the DNC. During the campaign, she vouched for her stepmother as conservatives attacked Harris for not having biological children. “How can you be ‘childless’ when you have cutie pie kids like cole and I,” Emhoff responded in her Instagram Story this summer, referencing her brother. “I love my three parents.”

While the Parsons graduate may not be headed to the White House, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more of her in the front row at New York Fashion Week and on the runways. Perhaps we’ll see her on the campaign trail again, too. As she wrote on Thursday, “The fight doesn’t stop now. Just check in on your people right now. I’m here for all of you and I love you guys.”
