APD: One dead in east Austin homicide

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- One person is dead, and the Austin Police Department said it is investigating the death as a homicide, APD Officer Leah Ratliff said during a media briefing Thursday night.

At approximately 5:54 p.m., multiple 911 calls were received in reference to a shoot/stab hotshot in the 6400 block of East U.S. 290 service road advising someone had been shot, Ratliff said. Officers arrived at 5:56 p.m. and found a person with "obvious signs of trauma."

APD officers, the Austin Fire Department and EMS performed life-saving measures on the victim, who was then transported to a local hospital, Ratliff said. The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:26 p.m., according to police.

A suspect has not been located at this time, Ratliff said. However, detectives advised this was an isolated incident with no threat to the public.

Ratliff said homicide detectives are not releasing any details on the suspect or victim "out of respect for the families." However, she said those details would come at a later time.

This is now being investigated as Austin's 57th homicide, Ratliff said.
