Boston Brawlers: Trent Frederic Stands Tall In Hectic Bruins Week

The Bruins got back on track this week and continued to assert themselves on the ice.

Boston won three of its next four games after a forgettable loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Halloween night. An action-packed week was capped off by an overtime win over the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

Welcome to “Boston Brawlers,” a series where we look back at the week’s best hits, fights and brawls. Let’s start with last Saturday’s shutout win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

No Love Lost
The Bruins dominated the Flyers, and former Boston forward Garnet Hathaway tried his best to get his team going. Charlie McAvoy boxed out Hathaway in front of the Bruins net, which the 32-year-old didn’t take kindly to. Hathaway tried to cross-check the B’s blueliner, but Mark Kastelic — shocker, we know — got into Hathaway’s grill and a scuffle ensued on the boards.

Brandon Carlo also cut up Hathaway with a huge hit on the glass, and there was another scuffle in front of the Flyers net that featured Trent Frederic throwing jabs and hammer shots at Travis Konecny.

Doing It For Jack
Boston earned another shutout in the second half of a back-to-back last weekend. The Black and Gold’s win over the Seattle Kraken came on the same day the franchise honored longtime voice, Jack Edwards. It was only fitting then to see Charlie Coyle set the tone when he tossed Ryker Evans aside in the second period.

Frederic was in the fighting spirit again when he threw hands at Adam Larsson for his strong hit on Matthew Poitras. The refs quickly broke up the fight, but it was clear Larsson had no chance against Frederic. Nikita Zadorov capped off the shutout win with a gigantic hit on Brandon Tanev into the corner boards.

Original Six Dust-Up
The Bruins suffered a setback when they got shut out by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Charlie McAvoy tried to get the B’s going when he leveled David Kampf. Brad Marchand also stepped up for David Pastrnak again when the superstar forward was checked onto the boards by Chris Tanev.

Extinguishing Flames
Jim Montgomery’s side bounced back against Calgary. Zadorov didn’t have a perfect game, but the blueliner again laid in a huge shot to pump up the TD Garden crowd.

As always, you can check out all the Bruins action on NESN using NESN 360. Boston will face off against old friend Linus Ullmark and the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Pregame coverage begins at 6 p.m. ET.
