Quiet Monuments

Quiet Monuments is a minimalist collection of tabletop sculptures by the Los Angeles-based artist, Cindy Hsu Zell. Consisting of a series of limited edition hand-made ceramic pieces — with additional releases to come — this deeply personal collection by Zell explores the evolution of human connection, memories, and the natural shifts relationships undergo over time.

In creating Quiet Monuments, Zell drew inspiration from her memories of growing up as a Chinese-American near the San Gabriel Mountains in California. The Chinese bottle gourds placed throughout her childhood home, along with natural elements such as tide pools and arched boulders, all influenced the creation of the collection.

Each Quiet Monuments sculpture is comprised of two connected parts, symbolizing the fluidity of bonds and the delicate balance between separation and unity. The pieces feature a variety of unique, biomorphic forms with finishes ranging from soft pastels and reflective glazes to monochromatic black-and-white designs, that have a textural, stone-like quality.
