Charlamagne tha God: Trump 'speaks to people's grievances' better than Democrats
Radio host Charlamagne tha God believes one reason Vice President Harris may have lost the presidential election is because President-elect Trump has a more direct message to voters than the Democratic Party.
“I know today Democrats will be looking for someone to blame. Let me be the first to tell you, it's not just one thing. I personally feel like Donald Trump speaks to people’s grievances better than Democrats do,” Charlamagne said on his radio show, "The Breakfast Club," earlier this week.
“I know people want to talk about misinformation and the dumbing down of society. I understand all of that. But you don’t have to be intelligent to know you can’t pay your bills. You don’t have to be intelligent to know you can't afford groceries,” he added.
The economy was ranked as one of the top concerns for most Americans heading into Tuesday’s election, and Trump was able to tap into those worries.
Although Harris’s campaign touted an opportunity agenda for the economy — including plans specifically for Black and Latino men — the AP VoteCast survey found that Trump won among voters who said their family finances are “falling behind.”
Trump also won more than half of voters who said they are “very concerned” about the cost of food, housing and health care.
“To millions of Americans, tens of millions of Americans, they simply felt financially better when Trump was in office,” Charlamagne, who was a supporter of Harris, said.
“I don’t think it’s fair to just chalk up, you know, Trump winning to racism, sexism, homophobia, anti-Semitism. Yes, he tapped into all of the worst things America has ever had to offer, and there are a lot of people who agree with his rhetoric and voted for him because of those reasons, but I truly believe most people voted him because they want more money in their pocket and they want to feel safe.”
