Iran’s Semnan police arrest 43 migrants in ‘Peace Plan’ operation

0

The police commander of Damghan County in Semnan Province, Iran, announced that at least 43 undocumented migrants were arrested as part of the “Peace Plan” operation.

Gholamhossein Arab stated that with the rising number of undocumented migrants, the police are taking more stringent measures to identify them.

Gholamhossein Arab, the police commander of Damghan County in Semnan, reported on Friday, November 8, that these undocumented migrants were arrested in a coordinated operation and transferred to camps for repatriation to their home country.

Previously, Alireza Shaeini, the police commander of Shahroud County in Semnan, stated on Thursday that 21 migrants had been arrested in the last three days under the “Peace Plan” operation. Shaeini added that after arrest, these migrants were handed over to relevant authorities for deportation.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has recently intensified its efforts to detain undocumented Afghan migrants, making life increasingly difficult for them in the country.

In many Iranian cities, the authorities have criminalized hiring or renting homes to Afghan migrants, adding further challenges to their daily lives.

The situation has grown increasingly dire for Afghan migrants without legal residency, as intensified deportation measures have left them vulnerable and uncertain about their futures.

Afghan migrants in Iran face growing difficulties as local authorities ramp up enforcement actions. Reports indicate that they are often detained without due process and quickly transferred for deportation.

Iran’s decision to expel all undocumented Afghan refugees by the end of this year has raised significant concerns for the thousands who sought refuge from conflict in their homeland.

Many Afghan refugees now face the prospect of returning to a war-torn country, where safety and resources are scarce. Their forced deportation will likely exacerbate the humanitarian crisis already impacting Afghanistan.

International organizations have urged Iran to reconsider its stance on mass deportations, emphasizing the devastating impact this decision could have on vulnerable Afghan families who fled conflict and economic hardship.

As the year-end deadline approaches, Afghan refugees in Iran are left in a state of uncertainty, with limited options and growing fears about their future and safety.

The plight of these refugees underscores the urgent need for regional and international cooperation to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
