What Contracts Will The Top Free Agents Land?

With free agency underway, experts have predicted what kind of deals the top players on the market will fetch. Many free agents are expected to switch uniforms, though some are still expected to stay put. MLB Trade Rumors, FanGraphs, The Athletic and the New York Post have each put together their big board of contract predictions for free agency.

Juan Soto

MLBTR ($600 million), FanGraphs ($585 million) and The Athletic ($611 million) all predict Soto will get a 13-year contract, while the Post projected his deal at 14 years ($630 million). MLB Trade Rumors’ panel predicts he will either sign with the Mets or Yankees, while The Athletic mentions the Phillies and Nationals as possible fits too.

Pete Alonso

MLBTR ($125 million), FanGraphs ($125 million) and The Athletic ($130 million) expect Alonso to get a five-year deal while the Post predicts he will receive a six-year commitment ($152 million). Three of MLBTR’s panelists picked the Nationals to sign the Polar Bear, but the Mets and Mariners are seen as fits by The Athletic.

Sean Manaea

Surprisingly, all four outlets expect Manaea to get a lower average annual salary than the $21.06 million qualifying offer, with both MLB Trade Rumors and FanGraphs having him getting three years and $60 million, while The Athletic has him at four years and $76 million and the Post sits at four years and $72 million. Two of MLB Trade Rumors’ panelists see the Mets re-signing Manaea, The Athletic mentions the Cubs and Tigers are other fits for the lefty and the Post listed the Orioles as possible suitors.

Luis Severino

Much like Manaea, all four sites have Severino getting a three-year deal with an average annual salary lower than the qualifying offer. FanGraphs predicts Severino will receive $48 million, while the Post, The Athletic and MLB Trade Rumors predict $48 million, $50 million, $51 million, respectively. MLBTR’s team had an even split between the Mets, Nationals, Tigers, and Giants as landing spots while The Athletic sees the Reds, Tigers, and Nationals as fits.

Jose Quintana

FanGraphs ($24 million), the Post ($22 million) and MLB Trade Rumors ($20 million) all see Quintana getting a two-year contract. The Athletic, on the other hand, only sees Quintana getting a one-year contract worth $9 million. Neither MLB Trade Rumors nor The Athletic sees the Mets re-signing the lefty, with the White Sox, Braves, Angels, A’s, Reds and Tigers in the mix.

Willy Adames

FanGraphs and The Athletic ($150 million) as well as MLB Trade Rumors ($160 million) all project Adames to earn a six-year deal while the Post is at seven years ($180 million). All four of MLB Trade Rumors’ panelists think Adames will sign with the Giants, though The Athletic believes the Braves and Dodgers are fits too.

MLB Trade Rumors ($200 million), the Post ($210 million) and The Athletic ($217 million) believe Burnes will receive a seven-year contract. FanGraphs, meanwhile, predicts Burnes will sign a six-year deal worth $180 million. The MLB Trade Rumors team was divided between the Mets and Red Sox for Burnes’ new club, while The Athletic thinks the Orioles and Dodgers are also fits.

Blake Snell

FanGraphs and The Athletic think Snell will get a four-year deal for $110 million and $120 million, respectively. MLB Trade Rumors and the Post, meanwhile, both have Snell in line for a greater payday at five years and $160 million. MLBTR’s panel thinks the Red Sox land the two-time Cy Young winner, while The Athletic mentions the Dodgers, Nationals, and Angels as fits.

The Athletic and FanGraphs both see Fried getting a five-year deal – FanGraphs predicting $125 million and The Athletic predicting $140 million. MLB Trade Rumors and the Post think Fried will get a six-year deal worth $156 million and $166 million, respectively. The Post ($170 million), MLB Trade Rumors ($182 million) and The Athletic ($189 million) all have Bregman getting a seven-year contract. FanGraphs projects the longtime Astro to get a six-year contract worth $162 million. MLB Trade Rumors’ panel expects Houston to re-sign Bregman, while The Athletic mentions the Tigers and Mariners as other possible fits.

All four outlets expect Hernández to get a three-year deal – The Athletic and FanGraphs both expect $69 million while MLB Trade Rumors and the Post think he will net $60 million. MLB Trade Rumors split the vote between the Dodgers, Royals, Tigers, and Reds, and The Athletic added the Mets and Braves as potential fits.

Anthony Santander

FanGraphs and MLB Trade Rumors both predict Santander will get four years and $80 million, while The Athletic ($105 million) and the Post ($100 million) predict he’ll land a deal lasting five years. MLB Trade Rumors’ team predicts one of the Blue Jays, Yankees, Royals, or Giants will sign Santander, while The Athletic mentions the Phillies and Nationals as other fits.

Yusei Kikuchi

MLB Trade Rumors ($60 million), The Athletic ($63 million) and FanGraphs ($54 million) see Kikuchi getting three years. The Post, meanwhile, predicts he’ll earn a four-year deal worth $68 million. The Athletic expects Walker to take a two-year deal but with a high average annual salary, giving him a total contract worth $44 million. MLB Trade Rumors expects the Yankees to sign Walker, while The Athletic also has the Astros and Brewers as fits.

Tanner Scott

Probably the most sought-after reliever on the market, the Post, MLB Trade Rumors and The Athletic see Scott getting a four-year deal for $54 million, $56 million and $64 million, respectively. Following a bounce-back year, all four outlets predict O’Neill to get a three-year contract – the Post expects $39 million, MLB Trade Rumors $42 million, The Athletic $45 million and FanGraphs $50 million. MLB Trade Rumors picked the Pirates to sign the slugging outfielder, but The Athletic thinks the Red Sox, Rockies, and Blue Jays are all fits.

Jurickson Profar

Profar, surprisingly, did not receive a qualifying offer. FanGraphs and MLB Trade Rumors ($45 million) as well as The Athletic ($48 million) expect him to fetch a three-year contract while the Post has him receiving a two-year deal at $26 million. MLB Trade Rumors expects Profar to stay in San Diego, where he has thrived over the last few years, but The Athletic mentions Cleveland and Tampa Bay as possible destinations if he decides to leave.

FanGraphs ($30 million) as well as the Post and The Athletic ($36 million) think he will get a three-year deal, while MLB Trade Rumors says he will get a four-year deal worth $44 million. MLB Trade Rumors believes Hoffman will land with one of the Red Sox, Angels, A’s, or Blue Jays, while The Athletic adds the Cubs and Phillies to the mix.

Clay Holmes

All four panels predict Holmes will get $10 million annually – FanGraphs and The Athletic both say over two years while MLB Trade Rumors and the Post say three years. MLB Trade Rumors split the vote between the Red Sox, Orioles, Phillies, and Royals, while The Athletic has the Reds, Yankees, and Nationals as fits for the righty.

Carlos Estévez

The Post ($33 million), The Athletic ($30 million) and MLB Trade Rumors ($27 million) predict Estévez to get a three-year deal. Fangraphs, meanwhile, only expects the righty to get a two-year deal worth $18 million. MLB Trade Rumors’ panel was split between the Phillies, Rangers, A’s, and Blue Jays, and The Athletic expects the Red Sox and Royals to be in the mix as well.
