Duke Throttles The Pack In Raleigh, 29-19
Another sweet win for the Blue Devils!
With Saturday’s 29-19 win over NC State, Duke did something fairly rare: it established bragging rights over the Wolfpack and UNC, having beaten the Tar Heels earlier in the season.
The defense came through Saturday, starting with a safety to go up 2-0 and then punishing State when it got near the end zone. The Pack was held to three field goals in the 2nd quarter and just one in the third. They did finally score a touchdown in the fourth, but it was too little too late.
Maalik Murphy ended up with 245 yards in the air and two touchdown passes. Duke got very little out of the running games with a total of 36 yards.
However, State QB CJ Bailey was limited to 184 yards passing and State tacked on another 84 yards on the ground. But when it came to crunch time, the Pack couldn’t punch the ball in.
With the win, Duke moves to 7-3 and snaps a two-game losing streak. The last two games on the schedule are Virginia Tech, and while either tea could obviously win, it’s not like we’re talking Miami and Clemson. Those are games that Duke could win.
Whatever happens, Manny Diaz’s Blue Devils are already assured of a winning season. But a nine-win season? That would be amazing.
