Sports Briefs: San Marin alum Ingrassia continues to shine with Delta

Former San Marin High standout Dominic Ingrassia remained unbeaten as College of San Mateo’s starting quarterback, throwing three touchdowns in a 61-7 win against San Joaquin Delta on Saturday.

Ingrassa connected on 13 of his 19 pass attempts for 219 yards. All three of Ingrassia’s touchdowns came in the second quarter as the Bulldogs (8-1, 4-0) built a 28-7 lead. San Mateo has won six games in a row since Ingrassia took over the job against American River on Sept. 28.

Women’s basketball

Isabella Zepeda scored a team-high 20 points to lead College of Marin past Gavilan in Saturday’s finale of the Don Barksdale Classic in Kentfield. Jamala Harrison had a big night with 16 points and six steals for the Mariners (2-1), while Kamari Johnson came off the bench for 12 points and Alora Thomas scored a season-high 10 points. Bella Turner had a team-best nine rebounds to go with six points.

Samantha Morris posted a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds as Marin beat Ohlone, 69-50, in Friday night’s opener of the Don Barksdale Classic. Morris added three assists and three steals. Four Mariners scored in double figures, with Zepeda (12 points), Sierra Calantas (11) and Harrison (10).

• Alaiyah San Juan tied a career high with 29 points to lead all players, but Dominican University fell 75-68 to Chico State on Saturday afternoon inFresno. San Juan also notched six rebounds and three steals for the Penguins (1-4). Adja Walker was the only other player in double-figures for Dominican finishing with 10 points and three rebounds.

Men’s basketball

K’Hamani Olivacce and Tomasi Pavihi each scored 12 points, but College of Marin fell to Diablo Valley, 77-65, on Friday in the Don Barksdale Classic. Starter Akili Johnson tallied eight points and seven boards, while Terra Linda grad Alex Miazga came off the Mariners bench for eight points and six rebounds. The Mariners (1-3) are scheduled to play Gavilan on the road Friday.

• Dominican University opened the year with a bold statement as the Penguins topped Sonoma State, 84-69, Friday night. Jorge Ochoa led four Penguins in double figures with 17 points while he went 3-for-6 behind the arc. Jaayden Bush finished with a near triple-double for Dominican with nine points, eight assists and seven rebounds in his first game back from injury. Jordan Archie added 13 points for Dominican, which got 11 points each from Thomas Oosterbroek and Darius Best.

Men’s soccer

Diego Grande scored in the first half, and Armando Jimenez and Thomas Van Schoor tried to rally the Penguins with second-half scores, but Dominican University came up short, 4-3, against Westmont in Santa Barbara in Saturday’s season finale. The Penguins wrap up the 2024 campaign with a 7-9-1 overall record, 4-7-0 in the PacWest.

Women’s soccer

Dominican (7-10-1, 3-7-0) faced a challenging match against Westmont College, ultimately falling 4-0 in Santa Barbara in Saturday’s regular-season finale.

Women’s volleyball

Dominican suffered back-to-back losses during a two-game homestead as the Penguins fell to Azusa Pacific in three sets on Saturday. Junior Avery Schneider led the Dominican attack with 11 kills, while freshman Kali Young added 10 kills for the Penguins, who lost 25-16, 28-26, 25-21.

Dominican lost Friday night in a PacWest clash against Fresno Pacific, 3-1, as the Penguins returned home from a three-game southern California road trip. The Sunbirds took the win, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 30-28. Reagan Macha led the Penguins (3-8, 2-13 PacWest) in kills, slamming home 22 to go along with 11 digs while senior Camille Rivers dished out 36 assists with 14 digs. This marked River’s 14th consecutive match with double-digit assists.
