Spurs youngster has impressed in limited opportunities

Archie Gray has done a lot of things right so far this season, with the youngster appearing to be growing as a player with each opportunity he gets.

The 18-year-old has shown commendable tactical maturity for someone so young, having been deployed in a number of positions across the backline so far this season.

The teenager has certainly made a great impression on Ange Postecoglou, who labelled him ‘outstanding’ following his performance in the Europa League against Galatasaray on Thursday (TNT Sports).

Carlton Palmer makes Archie Gray transfer claim

It was reported by GiveMeSport on October 30 that Spurs expect several loan offers to arrive for Gray in the January transfer window.

The outlet explained that the Lilywhites hierarchy are expected to make a difficult decision on whether to send the youngster out to get regular game time or to keep him as a backup at N17.

Palmer believes that Gray’s former club, Leeds, should vie for the player’s signature, but admitted that the Championship side will not find it easy to get their academy graduate back.

The pundit told Football League World: “Tottenham are bracing themselves for a host of clubs to test the waters in regard to taking Archie Gray on loan.

“There’s talk of Premier League clubs and Championship clubs who would be interested in taking him in on loan. Gray is still well thought of by Postecoglou. He sees the 18-year-old as a very shrewd bit of business, and one which will pay off in the long term.

“He’s highly rated, but his game time has been affected, he hasn’t had enough game time. He has only played 393 minutes of action in all competitions so far this season, so the question remains, will they let him go out on loan?

“If they do let him go, Leeds may have just missed out on his return with Premier League clubs interested. It would be a great bit of business if they could pull it off, but there will be lots of competition for the midfielder.

“I don’t think he’d want to go to the likes of Southampton, who are struggling, maybe Leicester City, who are just outside the drop.

“I think it would be a great fit for him to return to Leeds. He’s only 18, very versatile, as Leeds fans know, and he could play a major part from Christmas till the end of the season, by helping them get promoted back to the Premier League.”

Gray is too important for Ange Postecoglou

Postecoglou would likely not consider letting Gray leave as the youngster’s versatility makes him an extremely valuable squad player. The Tottenham head coach will not want to leave himself short in case of injuries in the second half of the season.

One would also think that the Spurs summer signing will be relatively happy with the amount of minutes he has got so far this season.
