Why Super Bowl Champion ‘Didn’t Like’ Playing For Patriots

Michael Bennett, much to his delight, wasn’t with the Patriots for long.

Bennett was traded by Philadelphia to New England in March 2019 following five standout seasons in Seattle. However, the three-time Pro Bowl selection only played six games with the Patriots and ended up finishing the season with the Cowboys after he was traded to Dallas in late October.

The Super Bowl XLVIII champion recently appeared on the “Games with Names” podcast and told Julian Edelman his “overall” experience in New England was a good one. That said, Bennett clearly welcomed his Patriots exit.

“I just didn’t like it there,” Bennett told Edelman. “I just felt like I didn’t fit into the situation. …I just came from, like, a very free-spirited place. Like, having to wear knee braces at practice. I never had to do nothing like that. I didn’t like my position coach because he didn’t know nothing about defensive ends or nothing like that. Every team I’d ever been on, the defensive line was one of the most important parts of the team. New England, I feel like, is more about the secondary and the linebackers.”

Perhaps there are additional reasons why Bennett doesn’t care for the Patriots organization. New England’s miraculous Super Bowl XLIX win prevented the Seahawks from going back-to-back on football’s biggest stage.
