Craig Joyce made three changes to the lineup following their 1-1 draw against The Spartans in Edinburgh with Ciara Bonner, Emma Craig and Millie Paton starting in place of Murron Cunningham, Rosie McQuillan and Nicole Cairney.
Celtic were the first team to threaten and started positively with a well-taken corner by Shannon McGregor which was followed up by a number of great blocks from Queen’s Park that kept it level. Lucy Ashworth-Clifford found herself in a promising position with a long range effort that rattled off the crossbar.
Minutes later, Celtic continued to set their sights on an early opener as Murphy Agnew picked up on a loose shot but the effort was no trouble for Lauren McGregor in net.
The hosts found the opening goal in the 7th minute as Agnew got on the end of a low cross before slotting it home.
Queen’s Park broke the pattern with a few good chances to counter Celtic’s; the first came via a great shot from Abby Callaghan that was fired just off target, and the second from their first corner of the game. Darcy Molley whipped in a well-aimed ball that was cleared before Lia Tweedie’s half-chance from a difficult angle was hit into the side netting.
Celtic looked to be through on goal again but a great standing tackle from forward Lia Tweedie dispossessed and brought an end to the threat. Back-to-back clearances from Morgan Hay also helped to prevent the hosts from taking the lead.
This was followed by another showcase of great defensive play from The Spiders, this time in the form of Lauren McGregor, who made a fantastic double save to deny Saoirse Noonan’s first attempt and her following rebound. Unfortunately, Kelly Clark was able to double her side’s tally after heading home from the resulting corner.
It was a quick-fire triple for the Celts as an unfortunate rebound would go down as a Morgan Hay own goal before Lucy Ashworth-Clifford found the net from the edge of the box.
A great block from Emma Craig followed up by a well-timed clearance from Jordan McLintock denied Celtic their fifth. Elena Sadiku’s side looked to be through on goal again after beating the keeper but Darcy Molley was there to clear it off the line.
The final action of the half came in the form of a Celtic corner played to the edge of the box before the following shot was hit narrowly over the top.
Half Time: Celtic 4-0 Queen’s Park
Celtic were denied an increase to their advantage at the start of the second half as Lauren McGregor pulled off a fantastic save to put an end to a great bit of play.
Queen’s Park came close to finding a goal of their own when Hannah Cunninghaam whipped in a great cross that found the head of Chloe Muir who was unable to convert.
Three minutes later, at the other end of the park, Cunningham had to make a fantastic last ditch sliding tackle to prevent Celtic after they found themselves through on goal.
Nicole Cairney was the next to step up and have a crack at goal, following a great bit of offensive play from The Spiders, with a great effort from distance that forced Lisa Rodgers to make a good save.
Morgan Cross found Celtic’s only goal in the second half in the 83rd minute after slotting home a decent finish by getting on the end of an oncoming low cross.
