'Fox in charge of the henhouse': Livid CNN analyst lambasts Trump appointment pick

President-elect Donald Trump just put the "fox in charge of the henhouse," a livid CNN analyst said Thursday.

Trump's Truth Social announcement that he wanted vaccine-denier (and bear crime scene-stager) Robert F. Kennedy to serve as secretary of Health and Human Services outraged CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner.

"He fits with the pattern that we've seen this week which is the hiring of people that are not just unqualified for a particular Cabinet post but unfit," said Reiner. "We're putting not just a vaccine denier, but a science skeptic in charge of all of the nation's premier health agencies.... It's, you know, literally putting the fox in charge of the hen house."

Reiner listed a slew of baseless claims made by Kennedy that targeted mRNA vaccines such as the COVID-19 treatment that prevented up to 2 million deaths in the aftermath of the pandemic.

"He has loudly promoted conspiracy theories such as the covid virus being bioengineered," Reiner said. "He's promoted the disproven concept that vaccines are connected to autism."

Reiner conceded that Kennedy's focus on a healthy diet was unlikely to cause harm, but argued the good was outweighed by conspiracy theories he described as "incredibly dangerous."

The medical analyst pointed to Gov. Ron DeSantis' appointment of Dr. Joseph Ladapo as surgeon general of Florida, where Scientific American reported in March that a measles outbreak was underway.

"The rates of vaccinations for kindergartners plummeted over the last three years," Reiner said. "Those kind of doubts are amplified when it comes to someone with such a large soap box and a very famous last name."
