Yankees name Dave Sims new radio play-by-play voice
NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The New York Yankees have officially named a new play-by-play voice.
Veteran broadcaster Dave Sims will replace John Sterling, who says he’s officially retired for good after a brief return to call playoff games.
Sims has called Seattle Mariners games for the past 17 seasons but the Yankees gig on WFAN is a bit of a homecoming for the Philadelphia native. He served as a midday host on WFAN with Ed Coleman from 1989 to 1993.
Sims has decades of experience calling baseball, football and basketball games at both the pro and college levels. The 71-year-old will now be paired with Suzyn Waldman in the Yankees booth.
PIX11's Kate Rooney caught up with Waldman at Joe Torre’s Safe at Home Gala in Manhattan Thursday night to talk about her new radio partner.
“It’s a wonderful choice. He’s a wonderful man,” Waldman said. “I’ve known him for 100 years, since the old FAN days. I’m so excited, I can’t wait to get going.”
