The American Love That Almost Led to Marriage

Ratan Tata’s first love story began in the United States, where he was working at an architectural firm in Los Angeles. He fell in love with Carolyn Emmons, the daughter of his first boss. The couple was close to getting married, but Tata had to return to India to care for his ailing grandmother. When he went back to the U.S. to bring Carolyn to India, her parents objected due to concerns about the political instability caused by the 1962 India-China war. Sadly, this marked the end of their relationship.

Reviving a Lost Connection Decades Later

Despite the breakup, Tata and Carolyn remained in touch over the years. He revived their friendship and she even attended his 80th birthday celebration in 2017. Mathew revealed that Tata would take Carolyn out for dinner almost every time he was in the U.S., with her last visit being in 2021.

Heartbreak With Gujarati Woman

Another significant chapter in Ratan Tata’s love life was with a Gujarati woman who was reportedly half his age. Mathew describes her as strikingly beautiful, but the relationship ended abruptly when she chose to return to an older boyfriend. This breakup deeply affected Tata, as he had hoped to build a future with her. According to Mathew, this woman is still alive and possibly resides in Mumbai.
