Red Tuna Crabs
Photographer: Mila ZinkovaSummary Author: Mila Zinkova
The red tuna crabs featured above in Monterey Bay, California are normally found in warmer and much deeper waters, such as in the Gulf of California. However, in 2016 hundreds of thousands washed ashore after warm El Niño currents brought them to the coast of central California. Though many lingered in tidal pools, eventually most of them were gobbled up by shorebirds. Click here to see a video of these crabs.
