Troy Turkey Trot to benefit local nonprofits

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- One of the oldest races in the country is returning to the Capital Region. Organizers for the Troy Turkey Trot expect more than 20,000 participants and spectators to come to the city on Thanksgiving morning.

This year's event is supporting two local charities: The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and Joseph's House and Shelter. Charity leaders said the funding will go a long way in helping them serve the community.

"Funding that's fueling our outreach services van, which serves our street homeless population no matter the weather, funding that's helping us expand our winter shelter capacity for our Code Blue program," Joseph's House and Shelter Exec. Dir. Amy LaFountain said.

More than $22,000 was raised for charity during the 2023 event.
