Celebrating its 20th birthday, the unique 175mph car is officially on the market.

The XPower SV-R can do 0-60mph in just five seconds, and has a 4.6 litre V8 325 bhp engine.

The model is regarded as the rarest MG ever made and it only has 10,500 miles on the clock.

It is being sold by classic car dealer DM Historics, as reported on Luxury Auto News.

A DM Historics spokesperson said: “The SV-R, which celebrates its 20th birthday this year, is a piece of British automotive history: the rarest and most potent MG of all.

“It’s a car with a fascinating backstory, styled by the designer of the McLaren F1, Peter Stevens and inspired by the Fast and Furious films.

“The SV-R represents a time of plucky optimism in the UK’s motoring industry.

“It took the fight to the supercar establishment in the early 2000s – the likes of Ferrari, Porsche and Maserati – combining V8 power with a cutting edge, lightweight, carbon-aluminium construction.

“Now a cult performance hero, and one of just 42 cars made, it’s got all the makings of a true British classic.”

Jack Twinam, Sales Manager, DM Historics, said: “We’re delighted to offer this fine example of the cult-classic MG XPower SV-R for sale.

“While it never sold in the numbers MG Rover might have hoped for, twenty years on from its launch, the XPower SV-R stands out as a bold, brave – and, it must be said, slightly mad – experiment in the history of British sports car engineering.

“It’s a machine that conjures up an age of optimism and ambition in the UK car industry, and is remembered fondly by enthusiasts as a machine that dared to be different.

“Thanks to its innate character and charm, coupled with rarity and serious performance credentials, as it passes its 20th birthday, the SV-R has become a sought-after collector’s item.

“This example has been pampered by enthusiast owners since new and presents in exceptional condition throughout.

“It’s likely the best and only SV-R available on the market.”

Meanwhile, two rare classic cars that were stored in a barn for 40 years have sold for thousands of pounds.

The vintage motors had been hidden away in Framlingham, Suffolk, before they emerged after the death of their owner.

A Talbot Darracq from 1921 and a 1952 Mercedes Benz 220 Type A convertible have sold for nearly £50,000 combined at a recent auction in Colchester, Essex.

The green Talbot – which was purchased in 1967 for £750 – sold for £10,500, while the white Merc fetched a cool £37,000.

It comes comes as a classic Jaguar E-Type and a Rolls-Royce were recently re-discovered together in a barn – having been tucked away for nearly four decades.

The iconic vehicles, which both require complete restorations, were put up for sale at the Oulton Park Gold Cup courtesy of Hampson Auctions.

According to the auctioneers, the E-Type, which is from 1970, was a 21st birthday gift to the seller’s late husband and was used by the family until 1986.

Elsewhere, an ultra-rare classic art deco Bentley fitted with a hand-wound clock could be yours for a whopping £300,000.

The Bentley Mark VI, the only one among 4,000 to have its coachwork completed by Mulliners of Birmingham, a renowned British coachbuilder from Bordesley Green, underwent a major paintwork change in 2010.
