Murder suspect escapes by kicking hole through interrogation room wall
A murder suspect brazenly kicked a hole in the wall of an interrogation room and ran off while no one was watching him.
Adlai Mestre, 24, was arrested for allegedly killing his mother, father, teenage sister and the family dog at their home in Tijeras, New Mexico.
Police body cam footage shows the moment that officers approach Mestre, who is wearing a white wife beater tank top, and handcuff him with his arms around his back and escort him to a patrol vehicle.
The video then switches to CCTV from inside an interrogation room.
Mestre, alone in the room with white walls and a table, allegedly uses his right foot to kick the wall and then his left foot, making a dent, the video released by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office shows. He kicks the spot with his right foot again, creating a large crack, then uses his hands to push through pieces and crawls right through.
Moments before busting through the wall, he was heard praying, ‘Jesus Christ, Heavenly father please bring peace to the others.’
The suspect tried to escape just hours after the killings when he was left unattended.
Mestre was captured during his attempt to flee.
While being taken into custody, Mestre said he was ‘hearing seismic waves’ and talked about ‘killing them’, according to court documents obtained by KOB4. He also asked officers if they found bodies and said he ‘had to kill them’.
Mestre was holding a loaded gun.
More bodycam footage recorded an officer informing Mestre’s older sister of the massacre.
‘Did he hear voices? Yes,’ she could be heard saying.
She told authorities that Mestre suffered from mental health issues and had stopped taking his medication.
‘I’m pretty sure that’s why… even I started getting on his a*** about it,’ she said, according to the Daily Mail.
Mestre has been charged with murder, escaping police custody and tampering with evidence, in the deaths of his mother Bertha, 51, his dad Raymundo, 46, and his sister Brielle, 17, on October 13.
He is being held as authorities evaluate if he is fit to stand trial.
