New Delhi: India has shown its interest in hosting Olympics 2036 at various global platforms and also confirmed about participating in biding process recently. The next step was to identify a potential host city which was anticipated as Ahmedabad or Mumbai as they have the potential and infra structure to host 1.32 lakh audience such as Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad and Mumbai being the financial capital of India.

Taj Mahal- Delhi NCR and Agra for 2026 Olympics?

However, the latest reports suggest Delhi-NCR and Agra are the front runners. Delhi being the capital of the country and center to the some of the prime tourist destination gate away. Taj Mahal one of the seven wonders of the world has always been on the checklist of tourists visiting India and what could be a better place to host this megaevent.

The other possible reason for Delhi NCR to be the front runner as it has 4 major airport that can deal with the rush during the megaevent. Previously, the successful bids have relied on similar monuments and places. The last Olympic in 2024 hosted by France was highlighted by Eiffel Tower and Christ the Redeemer was highlighted in 2016 Rio Olympic, similarly Thames river and Tower Bridge was for 2012 London Olympics.

When the host city will win bid for Olympics 2036?
The anticipation of any announcement for the 2036 Olympics is high. However, any steps and process will only be taken at the end of 2025 or after unless the next IOC President gets elected. The current IOC President Thomas Bach has publicly backed the intention of India to host the megaevent of sports in 2036.

During the Paris Olympics 2024, Nita Ambani and IOA officials have actively participated in talks and promoted India’s bid from back channels talk with IOC. However, India is facing tough competition from Nusantara(Indonesia), Istanbul (Turkey), Santiago(Chile) and many more cities to be expected to bid.
