'Stellar choice': Matt Gaetz says he loves his replacement

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) offered a ringing endorsement of Donald Trump’s new selection of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to lead the Justice Department.

Gaetz’s seal of approval of Bondi came just hours after Trump named her to replace the embattled, scandal-plagued former lawmaker amid sexual misconduct allegations that ultimately doomed his nomination.

“@PamBondi is a stellar selection by President Trump for Attorney General,” Gaetz wrote to his followers on X. “Pam and I worked closely together when she was Florida’s Attorney General and I chaired Criminal Justice in the state house.”

Gaetz added that Bondi – Trump’s former impeachment defense lawyer – will bring “needed reforms” to the Justice Department.

“She’s a proven litigator, an inspiring leader and a champion for all Americans,” Gaetz wrote.

Gaetz’s endorsement followed others who came out Thursday to support Trump’s replacement, including longtime Republican strategist Scott Jennings, who called her a "massive upgrade" over Gaetz.
