A passport is one of most important documents required by an individual, especially if one loves to travel globally. Most countries across the world charge their citizens a fee when they apply for a passport. The passport charges for different countries range between Rs 1,500 to over Rs 19,000 in 2024, according to a report.
World’s most expensive passport
So which country has the world’s most expensive passport in 2024? No, its not the United States, UK, UAE, or any of the gulf nations. The title for the most expensive passport belongs to Mexico (surprisingly), costing roughly Rs 19,481.75 for a passport carrying a 10 year validity, according to a report by Compare The Market.
Australia is ranked as the second most expensive passport on the list, its 10-year passport costing Rs 19,041, while US comes fifth, charging Rs 13,868 for a 10-year passport.
Notably, Mexico’s 6-year and 3-year passports are ranked as fourth and ninth most expensive, Rs 17, 072.44 and Rs 12, 557.24, respectively.
Cheapest passport
Interestingly, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has the cheapest passport in the world, cost just Rs 1,400, followed by the Indian passport, which cost Rs 1,524.95 for a 10-year period.
Apart from India and UAE, European nations like Hungary and Spain along with African countries such as Kenya and South Africa, also have some of least expensive passports globally.
Indian passport has best ‘cost per year’ value
According to the report, the Indian passport boasts the best ‘cost per year’ value, while the Spanish passports offers the best value overall, as being one of the most powerful passports in the world, providing visa-free access to 194 countries.
On the flip side, the Indian passport is ranked significantly ‘weaker’, coming in at the 82nd rank in Henley Powerful Passport Index 2024. Indian citizens carrying a valid passport can avail visa-free access in 58 countries worldwide.
