Portugal contributes €50,000 in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

0

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that Portugal has contributed €50,000 to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.

On Thursday, OCHA shared on its X account that Portugal’s humanitarian assistance aims to support vulnerable individuals in Afghanistan.

However, OCHA did not specify how or in which sectors this amount would be utilized.

Three days earlier, OCHA reported that Kuwait had contributed $500,000 to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.

OCHA highlighted that this was Kuwait’s first contribution to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund in 2024 and emphasized that the aid will be used to assist vulnerable people in emergency situations.

According to OCHA, the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan has exceeded 23 million.

Contributions from countries like Portugal and Kuwait reflect growing international recognition of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. These efforts, though vital, remain insufficient to address the overwhelming needs of the affected population.

As the humanitarian situation worsens, OCHA continues to urge global donors to increase their contributions. A coordinated and sustained international response is critical to providing life-saving assistance and ensuring stability in Afghanistan.
