YouTube Gold: Jaylen Blakes Lives The Dream

It’s been a big weekend for former Blue Devils and buzzer beaters

For the most part, we think all Duke fans were sorry to see the guys who decided to transfer last season go. They were all good guys, or seemed like good guys from the cheap seats anyway.

We talked about Jeremy Roach’s big time shot to boost Baylor over St. John’s the other night. What a way to finish off a double overtime game!

Well, a former Duke teammate had the privilege of hitting a game winner Saturday night too as Jaylen Blakes, who is now a Stanford Cardinal, hit a big-time shot to give Stanford a big win.

With time running out, Blakes came down court against Santa Clara and took a contested shot on the right side of the lane, just past the foul line. It fell through the net clean as a whistle to give Stanford a 71-69 lead over the Broncos with just 2.0 left on the clock. The guy who came out to guard him, incidentally, is 7-0 junior Christoph Tilly. You kind of feel bad for him after seeing his reaction to missing the block.

It wouldn’t matter much to Blakes, but for ACC fans who don’t know, Santa Clara is coached by former NC State coach Herb Sendek.
