Storm Bert has swept across the UK, causing severe flooding in south Wales where a major incident was declared and leaving five people dead.

Hundreds of homes were flooded and roads turned into murky rivers as heavy rain and winds of up to 82mph battered the UK over the weekend.

The Met Office has warned of further strong winds in Scotland, with a yellow warning in place until 10am. A danger to life flood warning has been issued along a stretch of River Nene in Northampton.

At least five people are reported dead following the storm. A body was found in search for a 75-year-old dog walker Brian Perry in north Wales. A man in his 80s died when his car became submerged in Colne, Lancashire on Saturday.

Major travel disruption has hit the railways between Broxbourne and Stansted Airport where passengers have been told ‘do not travel’ after damage to the overhead wires.
