CNN taps Kaitlan Collins to cover Trump's White House

0

CNN will expand the role of Kaitlan Collins, one of the network's top anchors and reporters, who will cover President-elect Trump's second term from the White House and continue to anchor a show in prime time.

Collins starting in January will serve as anchor and chief White House correspondent and will continue to anchor her weekday 9 p.m. program, titled "The Source."

“Kaitlan Collins is the perfect person to lead coverage of the new Trump White House," CNN Chair Mark Thompson said in a statement announcing the news. “Kaitlan is a political journalist of real depth and tenacity who already boasts an amazing record of scoops and exclusive interviews."

Collins joined CNN in 2017 and has broken several stories as part of her coverage of both the Biden and Trump administrations, including major staff departures and consequential policy decisions, the network noted.

Last summer, she moderated a town hall with Trump on the network that sparked internal backlash among staff and came just months before then-CNN Chair Chris Licht was ousted.

Licht initially chose Collins to co-host a revamped morning program on the network, which was eventually shuttered while the veteran news reporter was moved to host a show in prime time.

Since launching "The Source," Collins has hosted dozens of lawmakers and newsmakers for interviews and conversations about the news of the day.
