11/27/2024: Quiet today, rain and snow for Thanksgiving

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:

Make the most if this final day of preparation before the big Thanksgiving holiday! The weather looks cool, but otherwise quiet. Expect highs in the mid 40's with partly sunny skies.

Tonight, a big weather system approaches. Precipitation will begin between 3 and 6 AM tomorrow morning. Initially, we could all see snow or a rain snow mix. But pretty quickly, by mid morning, the valleys will flip over to rain. In the high terrain, though, it will stay mostly snow through the day.

That means higher snow totals higher up in elevation! Expect 4 to 8 inches for parts of the southern Adirondacks, Catskills, Greens, and northern Berkshires. A select few in southern Vermont could see totals up to a foot.

In the evening, the valleys could cool enough to see a transition back to snow. That will bring minor accumulations, perhaps a coating to an inch of two, to places like Albany, Schenectady and Troy.

Chilly with a few flurries lingering for Black Friday. Lake effect snow is likely in the Adirondacks and Mohawk Valley over the weekend. We could all see snow showers on Monday and Tuesday.
