Three dead following fiery crash in East Bay involving a Tesla Cybertruck

PIEDMONT — Three people died early Wednesday in a fiery vehicle crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck, authorities said.

Police responded about 3:10 a.m. after receiving emergency calls from a program within the vehicle itself, Piedmont police Capt. Chris Monahan said. the crash happened at Hampton Road and King Avenue.

Officers arrived to find the Cybertruck fully engulfed in flames. It ran into a retaining wall and then a tree, authorities said.

There was no immediate information on the three people who died.

A witness to the crash who had been following the Cybertruck rescued a passenger from the flames, authorities said. An ambulance took that passenger to a hospital. Authorities did not have an update on the condition of that person.

The California Highway Patrol took over the crash investigation. The Piedmont Fire Department also responded.

No other information was available immediately.

A family of four died in April when their Vinfast brand electric car crashed and caught fire in Pleasanton.
