Holiday shopping is heating up, and whether you're using the flurry of discounts to shop for this year's best gifts or stock up for yourself, one thing is clear: Now is the time to get the things you've been wanting. If new running shoes are in view, one of Hoka's best models just resurfaced at Nordstrom Rack during its Black Friday sale with a $60 discount attached to them—and it's a pair we can personally vouch for.
Hoka Mach X running shoes are now on sale for only $120 during Nordstrom Rack's Black Friday sale—a rare 33% off the normal price of $180. These shoes have earned nearly 60 five-star ratings from Nordstrom Rack shoppers who say they're "fast and steady" with "smooth transitions through to the toe-off," which means maintaining your pace becomes far easier. They're available in four vibrant colors and come in sizes 8 to 14, but some have already started to sell out—and we're willing to bet the rest will soon follow.
Hoka Mach X Running Shoes in Dusk/Cloudless, $120 (was $180) at Nordstrom Rack
The Mach X weighs in at only 9.4 ounces and has a heel-to-toe differential of 5mm, making it a great option for daily runs and easy races. It features a tough jacquard-knit upper that breathes without sacrificing durability and has a gusseted tongue that won't move on you mid-run. It has Hoka's responsive foam cushioning, which isn't as high-stacked as the Bondi, so it'll provide a soft but conscious ride and allow you to feel the ground better. The X-factor here—the same "X" that appears in the name—is the carbon plate that's sandwiched between the midsole and outsole. This carbon plate provides extra snap and rebound in each step, making toe-offs so much easier.
One shopper really put these shoes to the test and was thoughtful enough to report on their experience. "I've run just about 500 miles in these shoes and they still feel and look great," they said. "I'm able to run a 6:30 pace on race day or be super comfortable on a relaxed run. This shoe can do it all on the road. They can be a little slippery on technical trails, so I'd stay on the road."
Hoka Mach X Running Shoes in Black/Silver, $120 (was $180) at Nordstrom Rack
After wearing them ourselves for months, we have to agree—the Mach X is fantastic. Not only is this sneaker light and breathable, but it's fantastically supportive as well. It might have a lower cushion stack, but it doesn't feel like that at all. If anything, it feels like you get the shock absorption of a maximalist cushion while also having excellent control of your rebounds. It's one of the only shoes that doesn't give us shin splints when running and we attribute it to great neutral support and the spring of the carbon plate that helps with forward motion.
Hoka shoes don't frequently go on sale, but when they do, they tend to sell out very quickly, and that seems to be what's happening with the Mach X. If you're looking to put a little extra spring in your jogs around the neighborhood or just want the benefit of a carbon plate in your daily runner, pick up a pair of these ASAP—you'll be glad you did.
