Tottenham battling Premier League clubs for exciting talent Andre Garcia
One young full-back, who is making waves in the EFL, has reportedly caught Tottenham’s attention, but the North London club are expected to face a lot of competition for the player.
Who is Andre Garcia? 16-year-old making waves in the EFL
It is not often that a 16-year-old looks at home in men’s football but that is the case with Andre Garcia, who has not put a foot wrong since breaking into Reading’s starting eleven back in August.
The teenager’s displays in League One have reportedly brought him to the attention of Tottenham, who are on the lookout for the best young talent in the game.
Spurs have secured the likes of Ashley Phillips and Archie Gray from the EFL of late, and it now looks like they are turning their attention to the Reading youngster.
Tottenham facing a lot of competition
This report comes from TBR Football, who make it clear that Spurs are far from the only Premier League side eyeing Garcia.
The likes of Manchester City, Crystal Palace and Chelsea have also allegedly watched the young left-back closely ahead of the January transfer window.
Additionally, the Reading academy graduate is also said to be attracting plenty of interest from around the continent, with Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Marseille and Atalanta named as his admirers.
Andre Garcia is a winger by trade
Interestingly, Garcia played as a winger for almost the entirety of his youth career before being thrust into a left-back role in senior football.
Reading boss Ruben Selles admitted about the 16-year-old earlier this season (via Reading Today): “We don’t look at the age of the players. He surprised us in a training game when he came in as a left-back.”
With the full-backs in Tottenham’s system expected to offer a lot in attack and even invert into midfield, one can understand why Spurs are keeping a keen eye on Gacia’s development.
