Coldest temperatures of the season expected this weekend

0

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) —  Some of the coldest temperatures of the season are ahead for the Portland & Vancouver metro areas this holiday weekend.

With the weather pattern shifting from wet to dry this week, frigid morning temperatures will come along with it. Expect overnight lows across the Portland area and the Willamette Valley to fall into the mid-30s to near-freezing as we head into the weekend.

So far this season, our coldest overnight low temperature in Portland was 36 degrees on November 16th. The average low temp for this point in November is 39 degrees.

These frigid temperatures are the result of a dominant ridge of high pressure that has been building offshore and will anchor over the west coast this weekend. With clearer nights ahead, especially across the weekend, freezing or near-freezing temperatures are possible for the first time this season around the Willamette Valley.

These cold temperatures will result in frost formation and the possibility of a light freeze or patchy freezing fog developing around the valley.

So far, there are currently no watches or advisories set by the National Weather Service for these freezing temperatures. However, with the possibility of freezing fog developing this weekend, drivers should be aware of the potential adverse road conditions.

Stay with the KOIN 6 Weather Team for the latest on the forecast across the Pacific Northwest.
