Some Thanksgiving Day links!

Good morning friends, and happy Thanksgiving! Let’s catch you up on the biggest news from around the league.

In Mariners news...

  • Adam Jude at The Seattle Times reports that the Mariners are eyeing young left-hander Brandyn García for a major league bullpen role this coming spring.
  • Former Mariners bullpen arm Casey Sadler officially announced his retirement from the sport after his comeback attempt from injury sadly fell short.

Around the league...

  • This one came in after I submitted yesterday’s story, though likely you’ve heard by now that the Dodgers landed the first big fish of the offseason, shoring up their rotation with a five-year deal for left-hander Blake Snell. As with all Dodgers deals, this one has a good deal of deferred money.
  • Longtime Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford announced his retirement from baseball.
  • Former Brewers outfielder Nyjer Morgan is giving back to the local Milwaukee community by coaching youth baseball.
  • The catching market this winter is really bad — like, worse than you probably think. Michael Baumann at Fangraphs wonders what the catcher-needy teams should do.
  • Speaking of, Ty France’s agent wants everyone to know that the former Mariner is open to shifting behind the plate in 2025.
  • Shohei Ohtani has filed a petition with a judge to obtain $325K worth of baseball cards that former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara purchased with the two-way player’s money.
