Kelly Ripa Explains Why Her Voice Has Gotten Lower Over the Years
Kelly Ripa is addressing her voice.
The 54-year-old Live With Kelly & Mark co-host spoke about the sound of her voice and how it’s changed over the years on the November 27 episode.
During the episode, she and co-host and husband Mark Consuelos discussed whether they like their own voices. After Mark admitted that he gets “uncomfortable” at the sound of his voice, Kelly explained why, pointing out that researchers have found an association between “how our voice is perceived in our hearing organs and the psychological and social pressures associated with how someone speaks.”

“It’s very interesting. Oftentimes, my daughter will send me a video of me on this show from 20 years ago or me in a clip from me on Hope & Faith,” she went on.
“And yes, I know I was younger so I sound younger. But, also, I believe that a certain amount of that was terror.”
Kelly said that in the earlier days of her hosting the ABC talk show she “was terrified,” so she naturally spoke in a higher octave.
“Then performing a sitcom in front of a live studio audience, my voice was even higher then. I think it was just being so uncomfortable and nervous, and not really breathing deeply into my diaphragm and relaxing into my voice.”
Mark noted that his voice has “always been down here.”
Kelly agreed he has “a very deep voice” but noted that she thinks his voice sounds higher while he is hosting the talk show.
“Really? Well now I won’t be able to listen to it,” he responded.
She said that his voice is lower when she gets “a message” from him.
“Yeah, [I’m] a little more relaxed when I’m talking to you,” Mark said.
