I was so excited to book a trip for my mum’s birthday but I was mortified when I realised what she actually wanted
SHE thought she had surprised her mum on her birthday with the trip of a lifetime.
But little did one woman named Lizzy know that it wasn’t quite what her mum had actually asked for ahead of the big day – and that the gift would end up an epic fail.
In a now-viral video, which has racked up more than 2million views, the daughter could be seen capturing the moment when her thoughtful present didn’t exactly go to plan.
Holding a scrumptious cake with ”rubbish writing” on top that said ”Romania”, Lizzy proudly announced to her mum that they would be heading to the southeastern European country.
According to Lizzy, who had allegedly planned this at the ”last minute”, she and her mother would be flying abroad for their getaway next year and would be visiting the picturesque capital Bucharest.
But whilst the city, where you can snap up £2 pints, was once ”Paris of the East”, it appeared that Lizzy didn’t quite get the reaction she was after.
After surprising her sweet mother with the exciting news that the pair would be jetting off to Romania, the mum bluntly asked: ”To do what?”
Lizzy wrote: ”POV: I booked Bucharest for me and my mum because I heard her talk about it but I clearly misunderstood it.”
According to social media users, who were left in stitches by the blunder, it wasn’t Bucharest that her mother had been going on about it – it was to ”book a rest”.
Hundreds flooded to comments in total hysterics, with one writing: ”She said she wanted to BOOK A REST”.
Someone else chimed in: ”Book a rest, not Bucharest… even though I would take that holiday in the morning.”
”To so what? DEAD”, another couldn’t stop laughing about the priceless reaction.
Luckily for Lizzy and the birthday girl, who thanked the caring daughter, numerous holiday lovers assured the pair that whilst it may have been a blunder they’re sure to enjoy their mini trip together.
”Bucharest is a wonderful and underrated city, enjoy!” said one person.
Someone else wrote: ”My sister spent three weeks in Romania a couple of years ago.
”She said they were the nicest, most welcoming people and an absolutely beautiful country.”
”Romania is so gorgeous, I went there recently. She will love it!” a third chimed in.

2. Involve your kids
Jemma said: “My girls are getting older, they’re 11 and nine, and they enjoy helping to pack. So I send them a list, and say ‘this is what you need’ and they follow the list.
“And then I give them a rucksack each – and say to them ‘you can have whatever you want in there as long as it’s not liquid’, and they can take that on the plane. And that’s their ‘home away from home’ items.”
3. Try a hack or two
She said: “I think they all work, but for different reasons – and you’ve just got to pick the right one for your trip.
“Rolling your clothes is really good to stop your clothes from getting creases. And if you’re trying to get a lot of items into your case, it’s a space saver.
“Packing cubes are great – for example, I’m going on holiday with my three kids and we’re all using the same suitcase for our clothes.
“These handy compartments let you separate your clothes, toiletries and tech into designated cubes, maximising luggage space by keeping your items compressed and neatly stacked.
“I love taking them abroad with the family and it means my kids can easily take charge of their own items once we’ve arrived.”
4. Decant beauty products
Do you really need to take full-size bottles of shampoo and conditioner with you? The beauty industry has evolved so much, you can now buy shampoo bars or sheets – which are much lighter and smaller.
Or, if you’ll be popping to the shops when you’re abroad, consider buying some items when you arrive.
5. Get organised before you come home
Jemma said: “When you repack on holiday [before coming home], the trick is to separate clean from dirty clothes.
“Also pack it in some form of order – so lights, darks, colours for items that need washing, or if you wash your clothes by person in the household, piles for each person.
“Then you can put it straight into the washing machine. Do it straight away, don’t leave it.”
Paris of the East
The Romanian capital was hailed as the Paris of the East, around the early 20th century, due to its refined architecture and fondness for the latest fashion trends.
More than century later Bucharest still retains much of the charm that earned it such a title.
But despite being compared to the French capital, tourists are often surprised when visiting the city, with its prices a fraction of what they are elsewhere in Europe.
When it comes to booze, a half-litre of beer will only cost an average of £2.11 in Bucharest, making it one of the cheapest places for a pint in the continent.
Meanwhile Bucharest’s 24-hour travel card (£1.40) is second cheapest only to Luxembourg’s free-to-use transit system, making it very simple to get around.
