Morning fire causes damage to multiple homes in Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Three homes were damaged by a fire this morning that is believed to have originated from a burner on a range that was left "on," according to the Lafayette Fire Department.
According to a news release, the fire was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m. this morning in the 300 block of S Bienville Street by a neighbor who smelled something burning and noticed smoke coming from the house.
When firefighters arrived, a single-family home was fully involved in flames. The heat from the fire ignited two nearby homes.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within 20 minutes, authorities said.
The home sustained major damage and was not occupied at the time of the fire. The vinyl siding on one of the nearby homes was melted and the other nearby home sustained moderate damage.
No injuries were reported.
"Fire officials determined the fire originated in the kitchen. A burner on the range was “on”. The fire was ruled an accident," the news release read.
