I’m A Celebrity fans shocked as Dean McCullough becomes second star to leave the jungle

DEAN McCullough became the second campmate to be evicted from I’m A Celebrity tonight.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ, 32, was given the boot by the public after 17 days in the Aussie jungle.

Speaking about his time in the camp, Dean told Ant and Dec: “I have really, really soaked up this whole experience, all the trials, you know, the things that I faced. I got stuck in at camp, done a bit of everything, and I really, really, really enjoyed it.

“And when I woke up this morning, I thought, if I go today, I am over the moon because I’ve not missed out on anything.”

Dean quickly became a target for the public on the Bushtucker Trial votes due to his relentless screaming and fussing during challenges.

They nominated him for six trials in a row – quitting two of them by yelling, “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here!”.

He was finally given a night off when viewers opted for Sun columnist Jane Moore and ex-Love Islander Maura Higgins to have a go instead.

Dean was no stranger to drama in camp either.

He sparked the Teagate saga after sneaking contraband teabags into the jungle and making others a brew.

The campmates were punished by bosses, who took away half of the ten cupcakes won on a challenge by radio DJ Melvin Odoom, 44.

Dean also clashed with Corrie actor Alan Halsall, 42, who woke him up to make him do his chores.

And he had a strop over his latest chore of collecting water for camp, whining about how strenuous it is.

Melvin, who was on water duty with Dean, said he is “very good at disappearing” – and branded him “Hou-Deani”.

But Dean defended his efforts in the camp, saying Melvin “had never spoken to him” about not pulling his weight.

“Melvin never came up to me and said to me, mate, can you go and do a couple of those runs,” he said. “I had done, I think it was six trials back to back, and he saw me sleeping and left me sleeping because he didn’t want to wake me up.

“I didn’t ask him to do that. He’s just a nice guy. But then don’t come back and be like ‘you’ve not done anything’.”

Talking about what he learned from being in the camp, Dean said: “I’ve learned that life is better when it’s simpler. You really, really don’t need to be on your phone all the time. You don’t need to be chasing the next appointment, the next meeting, the next gig…

“You can literally just sit in the moment and just watch what is going on.”

He also backed GK Barry to win this year’s series before reuniting with his mum, Ann, across the drawbridge back to reality.

I’m A Celebrity continues weeknights at 9pm on ITV.
