I’m A Celeb’s Barry suffered ‘unfair’ Bushtucker Trial claim worried fans as they insist he should have been ‘ruled out’

I’M A Celebrity’s Barry McGuigan was cheered on by viewers as he finally took on his own Bushtucker Trial – despite fears he shouldn’t have taken part.

Today, boxer Barry jumped at the chance to take on Spiralling Out Of Control, and he was finally given his moment for the first time in two weeks.

Meeting Ant and Dec, Barry was strapped to a spinning wheel and covered in grime and insects including spiders, green ants, offal, cockroaches and giant mealworms.

Calling it his time to “step up”, during the trial Barry had to win stars by throwing balls into hatches located around the side of the wheel as he got dizzier and dizzier.

With longstanding issues with his eyesight – prompting Ant and Dec to bring back their iconic Byker Grove catchphrase ‘he cannae see man’ at the mention of him – viewers thought the trial was unfair on him and he should have been ruled out.

Taking to X, one fan wrote: “I actually don’t think it’s fair to put Barry under this sort of pressure when he can’t see well. Not a single complaint out of him though. It’s way too hard, not fair at all”

Another added: “They did Barry dirty with this trial since he’s admitted to not being able to see.”

“That looks hard though. Especially since Barry canny see,” wrote a third.

“barry, who can’t see anything, doing a trial where he has to throw balls into small squares while spinning… they’re going to be hungry tonight i fear,” noted a fourth.

While Barry slipped up initially, missing one of the targets and losing a star, he eventually took on the challenge and went back to camp with 10 out of the possible 11 stars available.

This was much-needed news for the camp, who had been struggling to keep up morale after the torrential rain left their entire living space and clothes waterlogged.

The boxer has been desperate to give one of the trials a go after previously taking on a trial on the first day – Mausoleum of Misery – alongside McFly’s Danny Jones.

During the trial, Barry struggled to see in the dark coffins they were confined to and was unable to wear his glasses underneath his safety goggles, ultimately halting the pair’s efforts to get stars.

Viewers branded the trial unfair, with Danny ending up with a snake nestled in his trousers and resulting in next to no stars.

Since then, the voting public haven’t chosen him, and since it’s been left to the camp he has been overruled when wanting to take one on.

He was initially lined up to do Tanks of Torture with Oti Mabuse, but was replaced by Melvin Odoom who had yet to do a trial of any kind at all.

Thankfully it worked out for the best, and the pair brought back all 12 stars available.

I’m A Celebrity continues weeknights at 9pm on ITV1.
