Joe Sacco Offers Discouraging Injury Update On Key Bruins Defenseman

BOSTON — Bruins head coach Joe Sacco provided a discouraging injury update on defense Hampus Lindholm before Sunday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.

When asked if Boston expected to have Lindholm back sometime this month, Sacco wasn’t too optimistic.

“No, he’s still out weeks,” Sacco said.

Lindholm sustained a lower-body injury late in the first period in the Bruins’ win over the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 12. The veteran defenseman blocked a Justin Faulk shot and crashed to the ice with 3:08 remaining in the opening frame and did not return in the contest.

Lindholm registered three goals and four assists this season for the Bruins before being sidelined by the injury.

The Bruins placed Lindholm on injured reserve on Nov. 16. In his absence, Boston recalled Jordan Oesterle from Providence. Oesterle has platooned with Parker Wotherspoon as a rotating defenseman. The former has appeared in three games to date, averaging 17:05 minutes of ice time in each contest.
